To Anne and Family,
Bev (nee Parker) and I send our deepest condolences to your family on the death of Alan.
Somehow I thought that Alan was invincible and would live forever.
Alan had a hand in my early years, first as a Sunday school teacher at Christ Church and later as the leader of the CEBS. I was in St Aidan's Group and the other was At Alban's meeting underneath the church hall. Camps at Modewarre at the Smith's farm were great adventures that Alan ran.
I too, was a Junior Legatee with Geelong Legacy, and understand the difficulties that Alan and his mother faced in his formative years, and I am aware of the assistance that Legacy provided to them.
My mother (Grace) and Alan's mother were both involved with the Widow's Guild at Geelong Legacy.
At thirteen when my father died, Geelong Legacy stepped in to assist with my education and welfare. I recall going to Legacy camps at Ocean Grove where Alan was the Camp Leader. Great fun!
My mother was involved with the widow's groups at Geelong Legacy for 47 years so it became somewhat natural that I would become more involved. I was invited to become a Legatee on my retirement and have been for 25 years including a term as President.
Alan has lived a full and varied life from which you all can draw wonderful times to recall.
May I wish the extended Howarth family strength at this sad time.
Russ Cameron
