Mr Lancaster was my netball coach at Geelong College in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s. His dedication to raise the profile of the sport within the school and external netball competitions was exemplary. The time and support he provided to each and every player will remain as a wonderful memory to us all. My deepest condolences to the family on the loss of their most cherished family member.

Sending my heartfelt condolences to Joan and the Lancaster family on the loss of Ray. I feel truly honoured, as do many others from The Geelong College, to have been coached by such a dedicated, supportive, kind and caring man who had a deep understanding of netball. Mr Lancaster was a passionate advocate for girls’ sport and was highly respected throughout the wider Geelong netball community. I am so grateful for the impact he had on my netball journey over many years and for the treasured memories and friendships formed through being part of his teams.

Julie Turner, Secretary, Geelong Philatelic Society Inc. on 30 June, 2025 at 10:45pm

We were very sad to hear of Rays passing.
Ray made an enormous contribution to the Geelong Philatelic Society over nearly 30 years, including serving as Secretary. In this role he almost single-handedly organised our 80th Anniversary celebration, known as Geepex 80. This three-day event was a major milestone in our club’s history and a testament to Ray’s dedication and leadership.
Many members may also remember Ray for his long-standing volunteer work with Sammy Stamps. For many years, he travelled from Torquay to Melbourne every Thursday to assist, and he was a familiar and friendly face at the Sammy Stamps table during our annual Fair.
Ray will be remembered fondly for his commitment to philately and to our club. He will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts are with Joan and family

Condolences to Rays family. Such sad news to hear of his passing but as one of his many students that he coached netball to I just have the fondest memories of Ray. Certainly encouraged my love of the game and sport in general with his passion. I can see him on the sidelines and at half time so clearly still. Rest in peace Mr Lancaster.

Condolences to Ray’s family. It was a pleasure getting to know Ray whilst I was the Postal Manager at Australia Post in Torquay. We had many discussions around philatelic products, mail services, stamps & red wine! Ray’s patience and kindness will be remembered with a smile. A true gentleman. Rest in Peace Ray.

My deepest condolences to Joan and the rest of Ray’s family. I am so sorry for your loss. As head netball coach at The Geelong College during the early years of co-education, ‘Mr Lancaster’ was a real inspiration. He made such a significant contribution to women’s sport at the school and in the broader community, mentoring and empowering us to achieve our best. We netballers all loved him. It was wonderful to stay in touch with Ray over the years - at school reunions and, more recently, at Torquay RSL commemorative events. I am saddened by the loss of such a special person. May he rest in peace.

Our sincere condolences to Ray's family. Ray was a true gentleman and he was always one of the first to volunteer for any ANZAC or Poppy Appeal badge sales. It was a pleasure to know Ray and he will be sorely missed at the Torquay RSL Sub-Branch.
