My beautiful mum,
Thank you for giving me life, I was so honoured to be your daughter and blessed to have you as my mother. You were my lifetime inspiration, my guide and a pillar of strength throughout the years. Nothing was ever too much for you, you took it all on board and never complained about anything. Even when you were in great pain, you were a brave warrior that kept on soldiering on.
You were the epitome of unconditional love for us all and an amazing cook (and yes, I enjoyed our dinners together). You taught me so many life lessons, honesty, loyalty and most of all, how to love big. You were always there to protect me and keep me safe. Right from a young girl you helped me believe in myself and encouraged me to follow my dreams, that having a disability should never stop me. Because I had you in my corner, I learnt to always rise above the hurtful bullying and with your guidance over the years, learnt to be my authentic self.
You have no idea how much my heart breaks to have lost you. I love you so much mum, and will miss you more than you’ll ever know. Right now, I don’t really quite know how I’m going to live each day without you. I thank you for being my gold, and I promise to keep your memory alive in my heart. Your legacy will live on in me.
Rest easy now mum. I take comfort that you are reunited with your love. And so now, you’re free of all pain, and you and dad can ride off on the waves, into the sunset.
This is not ‘goodbye’, it’s just ‘so long’ until we meet again.
And as your famous words would be…
c'est la vie!
Your little girl, Danielle Xxx
