Remembering our very dear cousin Pam, loved by family and friends and full of life. Our families were always in close contact. Growing up in New Zealand Bill knew about Pam and her family in Melbourne, and first met Pam when she holidayed in New Zealand with a friend Barbara probably in the late 1950s. Our mothers were sisters from Plymouth in Devon. Pam’s dad Alf Colmer was apprenticed to our granddad Charles Rogers who was a coppersmith in the naval dockyard in Plymouth, and with Pam’s mum emigrated to Australia a few years before my parents came to New Zealand. He welcomed my parents in Freemantle in 1938 when their ship docked on the way to New Zealand but did not manage to convince my mum and dad to stay in Australia. Jenny and I spent a day with Pam and her in dad in Melbourne in 1970 and then caught up again visiting Pam and Lionel in Swan Hill in 1983. We visited Swan Hill several times over the next 30 or so years enjoying Pam and Lionel’s hospitality and company. There are also lovely memories of a lunch at a Martinborough winery a few years ago when Pam and Lionel were on a New Zealand cruise. Jenny writes: I have fond memories of Pam, Lionel and their sons. Pam (the woman of the house) introduced me to Swan Hill, her family, friends, and a local photographer who took wildlife photos of Swan Hill and the surrounding areas that Pam loved so much. Pam introduced me to the history of South Australia and war time history. Pam was a neat tidy lady who liked to keep tabs on everything going on. Pam was interested in life, with a lovely smile, and a friendly warm nature. My love goes to the family, Lionel and Paul, Richard, Warren and Joel. Blessing and peace to you all. May Pam rest peacefully.” And from Bill: Dear Pam, you teased me joyfully and shared family stories with me. Rest in peace Dear Cousin.
