One of my many precious memories of Mona was when she was staying with Col and me over Valentine's Day. I bought her a dozen roses in her favourite colour, yellow. After giving my beautiful wife her red roses, I turned to hand Mona her yellow ones, and she just looked up and said to Col “HE’S A SUCK!!!”. After a few seconds she just burst out laughing and said “thank you so much; I absolutely love them”. And there it was….. our little thing had begun; a special bond we shared. The precious connection that could never be broken. That silly little look on her face that came just before a little bit of friendly, cheeky banter that was always followed by her enormous infectious laugh. She took to calling me Kenny Boy, which I loved as it was unique to us. I would give anything to be able to have that banter and hear just one more time how much “Kenny Boy is a suck”. Mona had the ability to look inside everyone she came across in her life and speak directly to their soul and make them feel like they have a special, personal connection. The grief and deep sadness we feel right now is the price we have to pay for the enormous gift of being a part of Mona’s life. And that’s a price I am more than happy to pay.
