11/01/1929 - 08/06/2024 Judith Reid Dennis (Nee Mattinson) Dearly loved mother & grandmother, passed away peacefully after a wonderful life. A life filled with family, music, travel, Scrabble and the ABC! Wife to John (dec.) Survived by her children Barbara, Claire & Roger, and their partners Tim, Phil & Nikki. Remembered fondly by her grandchildren John, Rachel, Tycho, Sarah, Finbar, Indigo, Zara & Isabel, along with many extended family members.

Judy was a wonderful distant relative who welcomed me into Australia with open arms. I settled in SA for employment reasons but we managed to enjoy little adventures in both SA and Victoria and communicated frequently via the media. I regret with sadness not being able to spend more time in her company. With all my love I say farewell to the best of the best never to be forgotten your loving namesake Judy J xxxxx.
When you first meet adult relatives as a child, your relationship, and your love for them, is in many ways defined by that familial role. We don’t always get a second act, particularly with our grandparents, where you as an adult learn who they really are. I’m so glad I got to have that second act with my grandmother, Judy Dennis. My gran was wickedly funny, with a dark sense of humour that never left her. She was fearless, having grown up in country Victoria, and then travelled the world in the 1950s as a nurse, long before you could rely on finding English speakers and credit card terminals in every corner of the globe. She was incredibly confident, with no fear of telling you exactly what she thought. She had a great love of music and theatre, which she shared with my grandfather. He passed away far too young, and she raised three brilliant children as a single parent. We loved playing Scrabble with her. She wouldn’t bat an eyelid at dropping a two-letter word to deliver an absolutely filthy score and knock everyone else out of contention. I loved sharing stories with her and hearing her sharp takes on the world. I’ll miss having coffee with her at her regular haunts in the OG for as long as I live. I’ve been so lucky to have her as my gran.

Gran, I miss you already. 95 years and a wealth of adventures. One of the most amazing women. I’m so glad I got to celebrate with you so many Christmases, birthdays and my wedding, and so sad that there won’t be more with you there. Inspired a love of musicals, the beach, and games. ❤️

So sad to hear Aunty Judy has passed away. Wishing there had been more time to know this lovely, funny and adventurous lady. Mum (Margaret) loved Judy to bits and had a ball on their adventures together. She will miss her so much. Our deepest condolences to Claire, Barbara, Roger, Sally, John, Jude and families.
