I was unable to attend the funeral due to an ongoing illness but watched it online. It was a fitting tribute to Redders. As a former president of the Geelong Cricket Club I got to know him on a personal level and greatly enjoyed the times when we would have a chat. My wife Amanda who was secretary of the club during my years also sends her sincere condolences to the family as do I.

As an eight year old, my father took me along to the MCG to watch Victoria play the international touring team. Redders was batting and the game was meandering along in a holding pattern. In a moment of frustration I stood up and yelled out “hit a six Redpath” much to the chagrin of my father. Two balls later, Redders advanced down the pitch and hit a lofted drive over the bowlers head and over the fence. What a memory of my first cricket match. Thanks Redders!

Will miss the footy, soccer and cricket boundary chats Redders. About old Cats players, how to execute the perfect cover drive and your thoughts on the new versions of the game! “Hit it along the ground. You can’t be caught that way.” Missed by many Peace Howie
